Loss of Innocence

An exhibition of children’s art
from Gaza

6th – 26th November 2013

All Saints Church,
Priory Terrace,
Leamington Spa,
CV31 1AA

Admission Free

This exhibition of Children’s art from Gaza illustrates the traumatic impact of the 2008/9 Israeli invasion and reveals the hopes and fears of the children from Gaza and consists of about 50 pictures by children in Gaza, before, during and after the assault by Israel on Gaza over the New Year 2008/9. Some pictures were drawn a little later as part of a programme of psycho-social help for the children, or by children who were specifically asked to set out their feelings for the benefit of Westerners understanding.

The pictures show how children saw life in a peaceful Gaza before the invasions and then illustrate how the assault developed, the deaths and trauma, and the aftermath, culminating in expressions of resistance, and hopes for the future. In a picture showing children playing, the Arabic inscription reads: "It's our right to play, like other children in the world."

There will be an additional free event at 12.00 on Sunday 17th November in All Saints Church, when a teacher will talk about her recent experience in teaching children in a Palestinian refugee camp.  Refreshments will be available and Palestinian produce will be available for purchase.
